Why do we need height safety? the facts:
- In 2003/04 falls from height accounted for 67 fatal accidents at work and nearly 4000 major injuries. They remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury (HSE 2005).
- 47% of worker fatalities in the construction industry in 2001-2002 were caused by falls from height.
- In 2000-2001 nearly 14000 employees were injured as a result of falls from height.
- Falls from height continue to be the largest cause of workplace deaths and injuries to workers all over the world
- The Association of British Insurers has stated that £12 Billion is lost every year through accidents, 25% of which is a result of falling from heights.
It is an unfortunate fact of life that accidents in the work place do happen. However, many could be avoided if employers paid more attention to Health & Safety regulations. Health & Safety is a complex issue and there are increasingly stringent guidelines and regulations that employers must adhere to.
